Pretty Clouds

No story to go with this. Just thought they were pretty. Saw them as Dodge and I came out of dinner from Lefty's.

Best Dancer in Michigan

Mom was in Lansing today getting her hair done and asked if I wanted to go shopping with her after I got out of work. So I called up Dodge and told him to meet us at the Eastwood Towne Center in Lansing for dinner after shopping. Mom thought it a great idea and called Dad to meet us as well.

We didn't do much shopping. Bought a couple things and then walked to the restaurant. We went to Claddagh. Yummy beer and fish n chips! Afterwards Dad and Dodge got in their cars and drove off and Mom and I walked back to our cars on the other side of the lot.

There in the middle of the shopping complex was a band playing and they sounded real good so we stopped and sat on a bench to listen to them for a bit. That's when I saw this guy dancing.

Oh, he cracked me up! He was just an old guy really digging the music and decided to dance no matter what. I was tempted to go dance with him but I knew mom was going to film me like I did this guy so I chickened out. But I thought he was great and dub him the best dancer in Michigan!

Relaxing on Father's Day

Jamie and her Beverage
Originally uploaded by Jamie Howell
Mom invited us all over for a cook out and pool party yesterday for Father's Day. Pool was a little chilly at first but once you got in it felt quite nice. I very much enjoyed floating around with my frosty beverage and soaking a little sun into my pasty white skin. I did wear sun block so I'm not even burnt! Ok my cheeks are a little rosy but that's really not bad.

Anyway I hope dad had fun for his Father's day. I have other pictures that mom sent me I'll be adding to flickr later.

Rainbow Over my Work

I thought this was a nice picture that I found on the Treasury Intranet this afternoon. A perfectly beautiful rainbow directly over my place of work. I was asked if I had seen the rainbow when I came in this morning but I honestly did not. Too bad that today was the work day from hell. Seeing the rainbow may of helped.

Taco Jon

Doing what he does best. Eatin' tacos.

Speeding Ticket

So driving home on Monday, I was behind a rust bucket that was obviously struggling to stay operating. The vehicle would slow down to 50 mph or slower and then speed up to 60 mph and was fluctuating everywhere in between. I assume this speed discrepancy is due to hills on the road slowing or speeding him up but I wasn't really paying attention to that. I was mostly behind him annoyed that I wasn't allowed to use my cruise control with any sort of success due to his constant speed changes.

I was trying for several miles to try to pass him so I could just get him behind me, set my cruise and go. I finally see my opportunity and zip around him quickly and it isn't until too late that I see the unmarked cop car on the side of the road. It was poop brown and pretty well camouflaged where it was. So I get pulled over because this dinkus clocked my speed while I was passing another car.

Now I know the rule that to pass you still need to not break the speed limit yadda yadda. But I also know that no one follows this rule. I think ticketing me for speeding while passing a vehicle is just stupid. Why don't you also ticket me for driving on the wrong side of the road? I was doing that as well.

I explained to the officer that I was simply trying to get around him quickly because I'm scared of on coming traffic and just wanted the pass over with. He is quick to point out the car wasn't going that slow in the first place. I do not get a chance to explain the passed car's inconsistent speed which he wouldn't of experienced in the 20 seconds he was stuck behind him. I get a ticket for doing a 73 in a 55 (eh... my car's got some pep). Here's where it gets weird.

The cop tells me that he knows I have a good driving record but he has no choice but to write the ticket for the full amount. He wants me to deny the charges and set up an informal hearing. He was very specific to make sure it's an informal hearing. He said he would appear at the hearing and argue that he does not wish me to have the points on my license. So if I do this I can possibly get out of points, but will still get the fine. Which I guess is a nice gesture in a round about way. How it stinks is I don't have any vacation time to devote to missing work and attending an informal hearing. All of my saved vacation time will be used on vacation next month. Plus I'm lazy and really don't feel like showing up to something just to be told "nope you were wrong for passing gimme a XXX dollars".

Anyway Matt sent along this video today and I thought it good enough to share.

Stuck in Traffic

I'm late for work thanks to some stopped traffic on I-69 this morning. It appears the jam is the result of new construction on this road today but I haven't gotten close enough to confirm that. I'm not really a very happy camper this morning.

Update: It was construction. Three lanes were reduced to one. Plus some accidents due to people not able to go from 70 mph to 0 quickly enough. I was 50 minutes late to work. Hurray...

BBQ x 2

OscarWe have two BBQs to attend to today. It's pretty warm out, 80 something and kind of humid but still should be nice enough to sit outside and not do a lot.

The first BBQ we have is at Dodge's co-worker's, Karenanna. She was nice enough to also invite our puppies! We decided watching all 3 was too much and Vienna is a bit of a stranger hater so we're just going to bring Oscar. As you can tell, he's super excited. I don't care cuz I think he's adorable!

Later we're heading out to Ed's to celebrate Misty's birthday! Should be a good time.

Big Storm

Since I-69 and M-52 have construction, I've been going up 127 to M-21 to get home lately. I think that was a mistake as I ran right into a huge storm system. This is the clouds in the distance. It was very very windy and I was looking out for tornados. When I got to the St. Johns area though I could barely see. There was rain and hail and there was debris in the streets. Was pretty scary.

Our Next Vacation

I just booked our next vacation last night and I'm super excited! We are going for 7 days to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. We are staying at the all inclusive resort Iberostar Domincana. The deal was too good. Airfare, hotel, food and booze all included.

We fly out there on July 20th and will be vacationing with my parents again. We had a lot of fun with them in Belgium! I think mom was also planning on asking my siblings to come if they could get off work. Could be a family party in the sun.

Now I have to go find some SPF 5000 to protect my white Michigan butt out there. Maybe I'll consider tanning a bit before going out there so I don't blind people when the sun hits my completely white skin.
